Fishing around Emerald Isle offers a wide variety of locations and types of fishing available. You can fish the calm waters and tidal estuaries in Bogue sound or the Intracoastal Waterway, you can head out to the open ocean for deep sea fishing, or you can head up river for some freshwater fishing experiences. And there's always just taking your crew on the beach for some good old fashioned surf fishing. This is a great activity for the whole family and there's no cost other than obtaining a fishing license. Our suggestion is to leave the iPhone at the house and get back to enjoying good times with family.
The calm waters of Bogue Sound and the White Oak River provide miles and miles of tidal estuary paddling through and endless array of islands perfect for the Paddle Boarder or Kayaker. Many of the islands are sanctuaries, home to a myriad of water fowl, including the statuesque Ibis, so for nature lovers Bogue Sound is an incredible source of nature watching and discovery. The clear warm waters of Bogue sound are perfect for a refreshing dip, so if you've packed your snorkeling gear you're ready to splash around and see what treasures you can find.
Jet Skiing is another popular water activity on the coast and will provide you with hours of great times on the water, call one the local companies today and get your jet ski on for a day of fun filled thrills. If you've never tried surfing, give it a shot while your on vacation, the whole family can do it, by visiting a local surf shop and renting a board or maybe get surf lessons (recommended for 1st timers) from one of the local's who know the best spots for wave and can help you to get up your first time out.
Become one with nature and enjoy a healthy sport that's good for the soul and the body. If your interested in trying it give the guys over at South Swell Surf Shop a call and start your vacation out right.
If you are an avid scuba diver or a novice you can find your connection on the Crystal Coast during your Emerald Isle vacation, the waters around Emerald Isle and the Outer Banks represent one of the largest shipping graveyards in the world. The Outer Banks are world renowned for their wreck diving opportunities, with literally hundreds of shipwrecks up and down the North Carolina coastline.
The warm, clear waters of the Atlantic off the coast of Emerald Isle offer outstanding conditions for scuba diving. The shipwrecks have created artificial reefs that team with undersea life, making the area equally exciting for marine animal discoveries.
You can't come to the beach and not try your hand at Miniature Golf. It's family fun for all and the kids will love it, you have Emerald Forest located beside the Pacific Beach store across from Emerald Plantation or just across the bridge there's the Golfin Dolphin and 18 of the area's coolest holes to play and if Dad wants to work on his game while the kids play he can enjoy the driving range to work out the kinks for the real course.
If you're headed down the beach towards Salter Path you can play at Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf and Raceway featuring two beautifully landscaped 18 hole courses.
The Old Burying Ground in Beaufort, North Carolina is a favorite among Locals and Visitors.  The burial ground was established in 1709 and islisted on the National Register of Historic Places.  If you are a history buff, especially maritime history, you will definitely want to stop by the Old Burying Ground and take a walk through time!
There are many stories that go along with the Old Burying Ground, but one of the most famous stories and gravesites located in the burying ground is of the "Girl in Barrel of Rum".  In the 1700s and English family, including their infant daughter, came to Beaufort, North Carolina. The little girl grew up dreaming of visiting her homeland of London. When she was old enough, her mother agreed to allow her to make the voyage. Her father made a promise to his wife that he would return the girl safely home. The young girl got to visit her homeland, but passed away on the voyage back home to Beaufort.  In keeping his promise, the girl's father bought a barrel of rum, placed the girl's body in it, and returned her to Beaufort for burial. Her gravesite is covered with toys and money from the daily visitors to her resting place.  Her tombstone simply reads, "Girl in Barrel of Rum".
